Privacy policy

When you make a free link: the files, links, notes and to-dos you add, the link's name, and a random token stored in a cookie on your browser so it can manage (and delete) the link later. No account and no email are needed.

If you ask to be told when it's opened: your email address, used only to send the confirmation and the first-open alert for that link.

If you use Pro: your email address and name, your studio name, logo and brand color, the content of your links, and billing details. Payments are handled by Stripe; we never see or store your full card number.

When someone opens a link: we count the open using a random ID in a cookie on their browser, so we can tell the sender “opened 3 times” without knowing who they are. On Pro links we also record downloads, link clicks, ticked to-dos and comments, and show them to the sender. A viewer's name only appears if they type it in (when the sender asks) or comment.

If you comment on a Pro link: your name and email, which we confirm with a one-time code. The sender sees them next to your comment.

Technical data: we don't store IP addresses. To stop abuse (for example too many uploads from one place) we keep a salted, daily-rotating hash of the IP address for a short time and then discard it.

• To store your content and show it to the people you send the link to.
• To send the emails you ask for: open alerts, sign-in links, comment codes and replies, and billing receipts.
• To show Pro members what happened on their links.
• To keep Sharealink safe: bot protection, rate limits, file-type checks and handling reports.
• To understand how Sharealink is used, through counts like links created and links opened. These aren't tied to people.

We don't sell personal data, and we don't use it for advertising. Sponsors on the homepage get no data about you.

We only use cookies that Sharealink needs to work. There are no advertising or third-party tracking cookies.

• Creator token: lets the browser that made a free link manage and delete it.
• Viewer ID: a random ID so repeat visits count as one open.
• Session: keeps Pro members signed in.
• Commenter: remembers a confirmed commenter on that device for 90 days.
• Password unlock and name: remember that you entered a link's password or your name.

Cloudflare Turnstile, our bot protection, may process browser signals to tell people from bots. It doesn't use them for advertising.

We use a small number of service providers, only to run Sharealink:

• Cloudflare for hosting, file storage, databases, email delivery and bot protection.
• Stripe for Pro payments.

We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect people from harm, for example when acting on a report of illegal content.

• Free links and their files: until the sender deletes them or we remove them for breaking our terms. Deleting removes the files right away.
• Open-alert email addresses: for as long as the link exists, or until you unsubscribe.
• Pro content: while your plan is active. Archived links are deleted 30 days after archiving.
• Hashed IP data for rate limiting: about a day.
• Billing records: as long as tax and accounting law requires.

• Delete a free link any time from the page you made it on, the shared page (in the browser you made it in) or the link in our emails.
• Stop emails about a link with the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email.
• Pro members can edit or delete their links and ask us to close their account.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, or to object to how we use it. Email hello@sharealink.app and we'll help. If you opened a link someone sent you and want something removed, contact the sender, or report the link.

Links use long random addresses that can't be guessed, are never listed and are hidden from search engines. Files from free links are served from a separate domain and checked against their file type. Everything is sent over HTTPS. No system is perfectly secure, so please don't share anything highly sensitive through an unlisted link.

Sharealink isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.

If we change this policy, we'll post the new version here with a new date, and email Pro members about big changes.
